Gander Mountain Tackle Bag | Organized Fishing Storage
We built our tackle bag for anglers who demand organization without compromise. This isn't a generic soft-sided carrier—it's a purpose-engineered fishing workstation that keeps terminal tackle, tools, and hard baits sorted across seven dedicated compartments.
The 600-denier ripstop shell sheds water during sudden weather changes, while reinforced carry handles distribute weight evenly when you're loaded with a full day's arsenal. Whether you're wading a trout stream or fishing from a kayak, our tackle bag gives you instant access to the right lure at the right moment.
- 600-denier ripstop polyester shell with water-resistant coating
- Seven interior compartments including two removable utility trays
- Padded shoulder strap with quick-release buckle
- External zippered pockets for pliers, line cutters, and measuring tools
- Reinforced base with molded feet to keep bag upright on wet surfaces
Compartment layout and storage capacity

The main compartment holds four 3600-size utility boxes stacked two-deep, giving you room for hundreds of soft plastics, jigs, and terminal tackle sorted by size and color. Two removable trays sit in the top section—we use these for frequently rotated lures and leader spools that need to stay within arm’s reach.
External pockets run along both sides of the bag. The left pocket features elastic tool loops that secure hemostats, nail knot tools, and hook removers in fixed positions so you’re not digging through a jumbled pile mid-fish. The right pocket includes a waterproof zip pouch sized for your phone and keys. A front mesh pocket with bungee closure holds rain gear or a spare hat without eating into your tackle space.
Materials and weather protection

We chose 600-denier ripstop polyester for its balance of abrasion resistance and weight. The fabric is coated with a durable water repellent that causes rain to bead and roll off rather than soak through. Reinforced stitching at stress points—shoulder strap attachment, carry handle base, and corner seams—prevents blowouts when the bag is packed heavy.
The base panel uses a stiffer PVC-backed material that won’t sag or collapse when you set the bag down on a boat deck or muddy bank. Molded rubber feet elevate the bottom half an inch off wet surfaces, protecting the zipper track from direct contact with standing water. While the bag isn’t submersible, it handles typical fishing conditions—spray, rain, and damp storage compartments—without issue.
Carrying options for different fishing situations

Shoulder Strap Configuration
The padded shoulder strap adjusts from 28 to 52 inches, accommodating both cross-body carry and same-shoulder positioning. A quick-release buckle lets you detach the strap entirely for boat storage or when you’re fishing stationary and want the bag sitting open at your feet. The strap width is two inches—wide enough to distribute weight comfortably during a quarter-mile hike to a backcountry pond.
Handle Design
Dual carry handles meet at a reinforced gusset on top of the bag. We reinforced this junction point with bar-tack stitching and a synthetic leather overlay because it takes the full load when you’re lifting a packed bag in and out of a truck bed. The handles are long enough to clear your knuckles when the bag is stuffed full, but short enough that the bag doesn’t swing awkwardly when you’re walking.

Common questions about our tackle bag
The main compartment holds four standard 3600-size utility boxes stacked two deep. The two removable trays in the top section add additional storage for lures and terminal tackle you need to access frequently. Total capacity gives you room for several hundred individual tackle pieces when fully loaded.
The bag features a water-resistant 600-denier ripstop shell with durable water repellent coating, which handles rain, spray, and damp conditions effectively. It is not designed for full submersion. The coated fabric causes water to bead and roll off, and the molded base elevates the bag off wet surfaces to protect zippers from direct water contact.
The bag measures 14 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 10 inches tall. It weighs 2.3 pounds when empty. This size fits comfortably in kayak tankwells, canoe storage areas, and truck beds without taking excessive space, while still providing ample room for a full day’s worth of tackle.
Yes, the padded shoulder strap features a quick-release buckle that allows you to detach it completely. This is useful when fishing from a stationary position where you want the bag sitting open at your feet, or when storing the bag in a boat compartment where the strap would be in the way.
The left external pocket includes elastic tool loops sized for hemostats, nail knot tools, hook removers, and similar fishing implements. The right pocket has a waterproof zip pouch for your phone and keys. A front mesh pocket with bungee closure holds bulkier items like rain gear, hats, or sunscreen without compressing your tackle storage.
Empty all compartments and wipe interior surfaces with a damp cloth to remove salt residue and fish slime. Remove the two top trays and rinse them with fresh water, then air-dry completely before reinserting. Leave all zippers open during storage to prevent mildew. Inspect zipper teeth regularly and apply lubricant as needed to prevent corrosion in saltwater environments.
The 14-inch by 9-inch footprint fits most kayak tankwells without blocking legroom or interfering with paddle strokes. The molded rubber feet keep the bag stable even when you’re paddling through choppy water. The bag’s height allows you to reach inside for tackle changes without excessive bending or repositioning.
